A July 4 food-and-ride carnival returns to NYS Fairgrounds for Independence Day weekend

A three-day celebration featuring food, drink and rides — plus two nights of fireworks — returns to the New York State Fairgrounds for the upcoming July 4 weekend.

This year it moves to the fair’s Midway and has more fireworks and bigger rides than last year’s version, which was held at the fairgrounds’ Orange parking lot.

The Carnival Rides and Treats Independence Celebration takes place Friday July 1, Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3. Fireworks are Friday and Saturday nights only. (See schedule and details below).

Admission to the fest is free and all-you-can-ride wristbands are available for $25. Parking is free each day until 7 pm, then $10 per car after that.

“Expanding the Independence event at the fairgrounds to include two nights of fireworks was an easy decision,” said Allen LaVenture, the event promoter. “When you think of the Fair you think of families, fun, rides and of course, the food. Adding two nights of fireworks just makes for an amazing weekend.”

This year’s festival will feature approximately 15 to 20 rides, including several newcomers like the Giant Gondola Wheel and the Dragon Coaster, plus old favorites like the Tilt-A-Whirl, bumper cars, fun house, and merry-go-round. Rides are provided by Main Street Events.

Carnival Rides and Treats is also adding more games of skill and chance and Air Brush Face Painting with nearly 100 options, from super-heroes, princesses to amazing animal designs.

Food vendors include Big Kahuna’s (gyros and Italian sausage etc.); Baked Potato Express (baked potato and roasted corn); Ashley Lynn Winery (wine slushies); and Villa Pizze Fritte (fried dough).
